About Our Partnership

The Batchewana First Nation is a full commercial partner with BluEarth Renewables in the Bow Lake Wind Facility, representing one of the largest economic partnerships between a First Nation and a wind energy developer in Canada.

Together, we formed the Nodin Kitagan Limited Partnerships and both parties share in the economic benefits, risks and costs of the joint venture. We are very proud of this partnership and it is a great example of what can happen when developers and First Nations come together to bring renewable energy to the power grid.

Disposition of Crown Land

Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) permits have been obtained during the development phase of the Project for investigative activities such as the installation of meteorological towers, and the undertaking of geotechnical investigations.

The Project will use, to the extent possible, public multi-use roads that have been approved under the Forest Management Planning (FMP) process to reduce the number of new roads required for construction. The FMP roads include existing multi-use roads and approved road locations that have yet to be constructed. Accordingly, approval for these roads have been obtained as part of the forest operator’s approved annual work schedule as part of their Sustainable Forest Management Plan.

As the Project is located predominantly on Crown land, it will require authorization from MNR for disposition of Crown land and to complete the construction work on Crown land. During the construction and operation phases, the Project will obtain all work permits, land use permits, leases, licences of occupation, and easements as required by MNR.
